A dream
is something we yearn to make come true.
My dream
is something that I have not achieved yet but I will always
put my hopes on it.
As a
young child I used to have problems with the Eustachian tube
and my parents used to always bring me to the hospital.
There a doctor treated me until my pains were gone.
When I went home I thought how could a person’s hand be so
skilful. I asked my mother and she explained to me how a
person must learn in order to achieve something of a high
standard.
By then I
decided that my future career must be in the medical world.
But I haven’t decided the specific occupation in which I
wanted to learn.
Later
when I grew up, my mother started having problems with her
neck whilst my father had problems with his back.
My
auntie-a physiotherapist then came and massaged my parents
until they felt better.
But as my
auntie was very busy, she taught me a few techniques to help
my parents. As I tried these massages on them, I discovered
that they liked it a lot.
By then I
knew what my future career was, a physiotherapist.
Trying to
be physiotherapist not only requires being smart but also
the ability to learn. So I went and studied hard, I gathered
every information that came to view. I asked questions which
I needed to know and read everything that came into contact.
My first
aim was to make into O.C, which stood for Opportunity Class.
And also to make it into Selective. These two things have
one thing in common. They contain bright students who
compete with each other. I also wanted to make it into these
places as I can learn from many other talented students as
well.
When it
was the O.C testing date, I felt so confident that I knew
that I was going to make it for sure. The test was so easy
since I learnt everything before. Although I cut my finger
on the test paper my determination pushed me on and by the
time the test was finished, I felt as ‘fresh as a daisy.’
I waited
in anticipation for months.
One day
when I came to school, I heard all my classmates saying that
they had all received their O.C testing results and they had
all failed. I thought to myself:
“Could I
have been the only person in my class that made it.”
The day
dragged by so slowly. I kept glancing at the school clock to
see if it was home time yet.
Finally
the bell rang for the students to be dismissed. I rushed
home as ‘fast as a bullet’ not even stopping to catch my
breath.
When I
came home I was all red and sweaty. I swung open the door
and jumped inside the house. And to my amazement, no- body
was home. Where had everybody gone? I stood there thinking.
Just as suddenly as it all began, everyone jumped out from
all these hiding places screaming ‘SURPRISE!’ I jumped with
astonishment. What in the world was happening?
After a
while of standing there with a confused expression on my
face, I suddenly remembered about the O.C results. Why did
everyone scream surprise? Is isn’t my birthday and neither
is it anyone’s birthday?
Then
amongst the crowd of happy faces, my mother then came up and
said:
“
Congratulations Karen, you have received a placement for the
O.C at Harrington Street Public School.”
I
screamed with excitement. I cried with joy. I couldn’t
believe that I made it.
Then
suddenly the phone rang. It was a friend of mine that was
absent on that day. She said that she also made it into O.C
and into the same school as well.
The next
year, I went to my new school. Accompanied by my mother, I
went into my class. We all had to introduce ourselves and
the teacher gave us seating arrangements. She put us to sit
near the people that came from the same school.
The year
went by very quickly and I made more and more friends.
By the
time the next year rolled on I had made friends with all the
people in my class. But we had a different teacher this year
and he gave us a lot of speeches to do.
When the
middle of the year came, I applied for a scholarship at a
well-known school- M.L.C.
The day
of the test arrived and as I stood waiting outside the
testing room, I heard how all these students, carrying on
about how hard the test was and how hard the Written
Expression was.
I didn’t
take any notice of them, and when I went and did the test I
thought that I could’ve scored a 100 out of 100. Although my
parents told me that it was very hard to make it, as I am
not a student at their school plus the fact that I haven’t
learnt essay writing before.
Again, I
waited and waited until the results arrived. Until, one day
my mum was carrying an envelope with “M.L.C” written on it.
Shakily, I pulled out the envelope and it said that I had
received a scholarship at the school.
Next, was
the Selective Test. I studied as hard as ever. I answered
all the questions on the day and I came out with a big grin.
I waited for the results for ages, and I still am!
But I
hope I’ll make it.
In the
future, I hope that I could achieve my dream. I want to help
the community, with whatever ability I have. The community
could be applied to elderly who have arthritis, joint
problems, etc. It could also be applied to children and
adults who have problems such as sitting down with pain,
neck pain, etc.
I would
also like to interact with sportsman as well, especially
famous athletes. It would a wonderful experience and you
would never know what you might learn out of it.
So as I
would like to conclude my essay, I have a final point. As I
was looking up the word DREAM in the dictionary the other
day, it defined the word as an inspiration. But I would
define the word DREAM as an aim that we try to achieve at
the best of our ability. |
