My Dream

To depict my dream and allow it to be embodied by words can prove to be a challenge. Not a challenge of the body or mind, but a challenge of the heart.

While attempting to unearth the hidden concepts encased within me, to search within my heart and soul, for an answer to the timeless question of what my dream really is, the only notion that becomes apparent is happiness, for a dream is just that, an outlet for happiness.

And so begins the journey to everlasting happiness, via the trials and triumphs of life. But how will this ‘everlasting happiness’ ever be accomplished? Some people may tell you it’s through hard-labour and dedication towards a certain goal that one will truly be happy, for the end result must surely be worth all the toil. Sure, this concept will conceivably make you happy, however what will happen to the time between now and then?

Will it forever be shelved away, like an old photo-album or newspaper? Will its essence remain hovering amid the consciousness of your mind, like an old movie? And what would happen to you if, sadly, you didn’t reach that certain goal from which all your life has been derived?  Will you walk the streets of the world, clutching an incomplete persona?

My dream is not for the far future, for I do not know what will happen between now and then; equally my dream is not to amend an inaccessible past. My dream lives within this very minute, this very second.

I dream of the day when instead of reminiscing on past conflicts and mis-understandings people will cease the moment and embrace each-other. I dream of the day where differences are put aside and respected, where pointless pain in both animals and humans alike, is eradicated. I dream of the day when people, and especially youths, will set aside the anxieties of the future and absorb the simple pleasures of life; feeling the warmth of the sun’s rays first thing in the morning, or sitting and observing the twilight hours of a long summer’s day, as the warmth becomes entwined with a crisp cool breeze and cicadas begin to sing their merry song…

I believe this acceptance of the past and embracement of the future is the key to the locked gates of ‘eternal happiness’, for if you rely solely on the future to provide you with the happiness your spirit desires, you would have wasted one of the most precious gifts you have ever been given, the present.

The future can never be reached without the stepping stones of the present to guide you through; furthermore the future reflects what you have accomplished in the present.

Thus, my dream remains; to be happy right now, to take each day as it comes, to allow my life to be governed by my heart, and to always try to do what is right and good.

In saying that, there are many things I dream of being different in this world, for how can I be completely happy in a world where children are dying from starvation, while half-way across the world other children are experiencing health-problems from obesity, or a world where 50-250 species of animals become extinct everyday, or a world where countless wars, national and international, are still being fought?

It is my greatest hope that the dreams of others is to change these awful things also, for this world is not only mine and is not only yours, it is ours.

I know I alone will not be able to save the world; I know I won’t be able to save a million lives, or stop wars and diseases from plaguing the earth, all I can do is strive and hope. Hope that if the world is to be changed, if we are to drain the earth from these terrible happenings, each day, each action of kindness must surely count.

If each of us endeavoured to complete one kind act towards a fellow living being every-day, without an ulterior motive clinging to our backs, millions of smiles would light up the days of the world, not to mention the sensation of contentment each of us would be entitled to.

I believe that if people began to slow down and just be, just breathe in the clean air Australia endows us with, or just sit and talk with family and friends, or just appreciate the un-fabricated beauty of nature, my dream would come true.

Then perhaps instead of paying so much attention towards idealistic processions, such as money, cars and clothes, a greater appreciation of life would have been established.

I trust that my dream will one day become a reality, perhaps not in 10 years, or even 100 years, however I carry within my heart this dream, after-all, many universally changing ideas were once small seedlings embedded within a dream.

I just hope that one day everyone will be just that little bit happier, that little bit kinder and that little bit more appreciative, for it’s what the world really needs.

Nevertheless, for now I will continue to study, to learn and to obtain a greater understanding of all I can, for as they say; knowledge is power. However I will also be appreciative of every day that I have been blessed with, and be grateful to be in a position where I can say I am living a dream, as I embark on the voyage to make the dreams of others come true.

This is my dream; this is the only thing I can offer to the world, and this is the only thing I will endeavour to carryout through-out my entire life. I only wish to inspire the dreams of others.

So, embrace the ones you love, the memories you’ve made, and more importantly the beautiful gift of a new day, for you are living your dream right now, and the tragic day when you may wake up remains looming.
